R.U.R. Review
Apollo Games might be a rock solid company, but they are also a studio that isn’t afraid of using the same formulas over and over again. The R.U.R. slot, which we’ll take a look at in this review, is a good example of that, and its gameplay is actually a carbon copy of both earlier Apollo Games slots and later Apollo Games slots. In other words, the studio didn’t break any of its formulas with this 5×3 slot with 5 paylines.
It’s worth mentioning, though, that R.U.R. is based on the science fiction play of the same name. It was written by the Czech writer Karel Čapek, and it’s actually where the word “robot” originally came from. That’s certainly a nice source of inspiration, and we are all for studios that are capable of coming up with such ideas. It’s a shame, then, that the game’s audiovisuals are well below average and not particularly pleasant to look at.
R.U.R. Slot – Reels Screen
From the mathematical point of view, R.U.R. is a medium-high volatility slot with a decent 2,500x jackpot. You can enjoy it for many different bet levels between £0.10 and £35 per spin, which is a fair enough range. And, as with most Apollo Games slots, even R.U.R. comes with RTP ranges, and online casinos can choose from many values between 85% and 99%.
R.U.R. Slot Features
The paytable of R.U.R. comes with a grand total of 11 pay symbols, which are divided into 4 low-paying symbols, 3 mid-paying symbols and 4 high-paying symbols. There are your usual card ranks for the game’s low-paying symbols, and they can be worth up to 8x your bet for a set. Then, you can look forward to small robot parts, which can net you up to 32x your stake. Finally, there are stars, robot heads, dynamites and engines, which all pay out even in sets of just two matching symbols. Engine symbols are the top pays, and you’ll get an excellent 500x payout for a set of five!
In terms of special symbols, there are only Robot Wilds, which can substitute for any of the pay symbols and that also work as Expanding Wilds. In practice, this means that they automatically expand to cover an entire reel in cases in which doing so would lead to a new win.
R.U.R. Slot – Expanding Wilds
Gameplay-wise, there are also Full Reel Multipliers, which come into play if you fill the first 3, 4, or all 5 reels with matching card symbols. If you manage to do so, you’ll get a global win multiplier of 3x, 4x, or 5x, respectively.
You can then even try to boost your winnings with the Gamble feature, but it’s fair to be critical here and say that it adds absolutely nothing to the actual gameplay experience.
Review Summary
With R.U.R., Apollo Games decided to take one of their older slots, slap a fresh theme on it, and hope for the best. That’s not the right formula for a successful game, though, so what we have here is a bland slot that we can’t recommend to anyone. It’s a shame, really, as games with such interesting inspirations deserve much better treatments!
